Essex Solutions has completed a 62,000-square-foot expansion of its Franklin, Indiana, facility, adding dedicated capacity to support automotive customers across North America. This strategic buildout reinforces the company’s commitment to operational excellence and positions the Johnson County site to meet the evolving requirements of hybrid and electric vehicle programs.

The expanded footprint enables the integration of advanced production equipment, enhanced process controls, and rigorous quality systems. An optimized layout brings together production lines, warehousing, material storage, and a dedicated testing lab, strengthening the facility’s ability to deliver consistent performance and meet demanding customer specifications.
“The Franklin team has stepped up, worked hard, and played a fundamental role in the success and growth of this plant,” said Jared Rowntree, President, Magnet Wire North America. “In close collaboration with our engineering team in Fort Wayne, they delivered what we believe is the highest-quality magnet wire facility North America.”
James Lane, Plant Manager of the Franklin facility, emphasized the collective effort behind the expansion. “This project had a positive impact not only on Essex Solutions, but on every employee at the plant,” Lane said. “The team fully embraced the challenge, dedicating countless hours to achieving our targets. Culture and standardization were central to our approach, with a clear goal of raising the bar and establishing Franklin as the benchmark automotive plant in North America.”
As demand for hybrid and electric vehicles continues to grow, the Franklin facility is equipped to meet higher performance and quality expectations than traditional magnet wire applications. Purpose-built product designs, specialized equipment, and a disciplined focus on continuous improvement have enabled the site to become Essex Solutions’ dedicated automotive plant, serving as the sole supplier of magnet wire for the largest hybrid vehicle program in North America.
The expansions also strengthen integration with Essex Solutions’ copper rod facility in Columbia City, Indiana, reinforcing a vertically aligned supply chain that supports reliability, quality, and long-term customer value.
